I regularly deliver advice sessions designed to help artists and students get to grips with social media as a tool for promotion, building an audience and creating new opportunities to enhance their professional lives.
I offer tips and advice about the practical aspects of being an artist, from my graduation from Lancaster in 2005 to my life now as a professional artist and Communications Officer and Editor for AIR – the largest ever UK-based membership body for artists. I explain how using social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and blogs like WordPress and Artists Talking led to paid work with publications including a-n Magazine, Zchweizer Kunst and Dazed and Confused. I also demonstrate digital communication’s use in expanding peer networks, and how this has led to exhibition opportunities and an expanded network of supportive artists. I also discuss their role in AIR’s campaigns and advocacy.
